Find a doctor. Choose a time. See the doctor.

ZocDoc may be one of the greatest web tools to hit the market and I'm shocked that it hasn't spread like wildfire to other cities already (they're only in NYC, Washington, DC and San Francisco).
The idea is simple: OpenTable for doctors and dentists. It's fast and easy to get online, search for doctors that accept your insurance in the field you need and book an appointment. Next you simply show up at the time specified and have your issues solved or at least have your complaints heard.
One of the challenges that I'm sure ZocDoc has faced and will continue to face is the fact that doctors offices are terrible with change. It's not easy to move them from the pencil and paper system that are on to a futuristic product (known as the computer and the internet) but it's a change that has to happen. In a world where immediacy is king, doctors lag behind by light years.
I see ZocDoc growing rapidly in 2010. They are poised to be the number one way to schedule appointments with your health practitioner. If they offer a mobile (SMS) interface and a telephone interface they'll cover all of the bases to allow anyone (and their mothers) to schedule doctors appointments on the fly as easy as ordering a pizza. That's something we'd all like.
And hey, maybe this will get people in to see the doc more often and allow them to catch problems sooner and stay alive longer. That's a win-win for everyone!
