The importance of unplugging (from the web)

I'm about to embark on a journey to Costa Rica with the wonderful and beautiful Magdalena for our first real vacation as a married couple.  More importantly it'll be a trip where we both get to unplug a bit.

Obviously when we get to San José we won't be throwing our cell phones out but we surely won't be using them much.  It's expensive to gab with friends while in other countries (on TMobile it's $2.29/minute) and it definitely takes away from the whole experience.

While we're zip-lining around the volcano in Arenal we'll make sure to keep the MacBooks tucked safely away in the hotel room.  The only time we should be opening those machines up would be to let people know we're safe (via Skype) or to fix an emergency back at home (let's hope that doesn't happen).

Finally when we're making our rounds in Monteverde we'll make a point to not text our friends.  While it's fun to share experiences with the world (of course I do it here at Srcasm.com), it's better to do it after the fact.  Sure I'll be sharing all of the awesome pictures that we've taken, stories that we have and information about the culture that we got to experience.  But only after the trip is over.

When was the last time you disconnected from the web?  It's good for you (and your significant other).  And it helps you to appreciate the world you live in just a little more.
