Congrats to New Work City!

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

I spent the weekend down in Baltimore for Social Dev Camp East (pictures coming soon) and up in New York for the opening party for New Work City. It was a long and tiring weekend but it was so worth it!

Tony and the rest of the crew up there are incredible. They have the passion and the drive that’s necessary to succeed and they have the friends from other coworking spots to help guide them along (like IndyHall).

As far as the space goes, it’s bangin’. It’s a large open area perfect for a lot of desks and a lot of collaboration. They have a conference room and even a phone booth so you can make those secret business calls without the whole world knowing what’s up.

All in all, they are setup for success. Their minds are in the right place and their passions are driving them. If you get the chance, stop by while you’re in NY and say hi. You won’t regret it.

Lauren Galanter - One giant slash.

As I stated way back in “a new direction“, I want to take a look at the people in our lives.  It’s easy to say people like Guy Kawasaki or Gary Vaynerchuk are successful individuals as they help people every day, all across the world.  Whether it’s with starting a new business or choosing the perfect bottle of wine, they have it down.  But this entry (and future ones) will focus on friends, associates and all around awesome people in our world.

Lauren GalanterThe first (read: lucky) individual is Lauren Galanter (blog/Twitter).  Lauren is known around the IndyHall scene because she created the name for our beloved Philly coworking space (That would be, “IndyHall“).  So, I asked Lauren to answer six simple questions pertaining to her life.  She answered them with passion and incredible detail.

  1. Where/how did you grow up?
  2. What do you say was the first thing to put you on a course that led you to where you are today?
  3. What is your passion and how did you decide to follow your passion?
  4. Who/what was the leading factor in how you live your life?
  5. What advice would you give to others trying to start their “new” life?
  6. What else would you like me to know about you?  Any other comments?

So without further ado, I give you Lauren “The Video Editor/Media Designer/Filmmaker/Videoblogger” Galanter (more…)

You know you’ve got a great business when…

So, I was just browsing these here interwebz today and what do you know, a video where someone thanks Viddler for hosting their vacation videos on Viddler.  If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

It takes a strong company and a great product to get their users and guests to take time out of their day to write, talk, vlog or draw about them and that’s exactly what a company like Viddler does.  They take time out of their day to make sure that their customers are served.  When issues arise, they let everyone know that they’re working on them and if they make a mistake, they aren’t secretive about it — They make everyone who uses their product feel like they matter to their world (and you do).

When was that last time you thanks a product/company for what they do?  37signals makes people’s lives easier, IndyHall and Citizen Space both help to foster community, spark creativity and new ideas and Comcast, with all of their faults, are working to help you out when you need their support.  Take a few minutes to think about it.  Maybe you too should thank/hug/kiss/love a company the way that they love you.
